Michael Crichton, author, dies

Michael Crichton, the author of the blockbuster science-fiction novels Jurassic Park, The Andromeda Strain and State of Fear, died on November 4 at the age of 66. Through his books, Michael Crichton inspired readers of all ages and often challenged current scientific thinking.

"Crichton took complex and challenging ideas, made them intelligible to his increasingly gigantic, mass-market readership and kept them reading with pure fear, his leitmotif being that as technology goes out of control, violence and death are never far behind. He dispatched his characters with an aplomb that thrilled audiences who like to flirt with horror, without having to plunge headlong into its most vicious excesses." -from the Guardian.co.uk
