Art Geyer Civil War Collection

This reference collection houses military indexes and Civil War-related publications designed to aid in historical and genealogical research of that era. Some of the collections strengths are in the areas of: Michigan Civil War history, Confederate history, regimental histories, memoirs, battles, and pictorial works. To use this collection, please ask a reference librarian for assistance.

The Civil War Collection was donated to the library by Milford resident Arthur Geyer upon his death in 1995. Comprised of approximately 350 books, the collection is housed in the Genealogy/Local History cabinets on the far right of the library. Items in the collection are Reference and may not be checked out. Included in the collection are the following gems:
• A Compendium of the War of the Rebellion (2 vols.)
• Confederate Military History (13 vols.)
• The Confederate Veteran (40 vols. with 3 vol. index)
• The Image of War: 1861-1865 (6 vols.)
• The Photographic History of the Civil War (10 vols. in 5 parts)
• The Rebellion Record: A Diary of American Events (12 vols.)
• Record of service of Michigan volunteers in the Civil War, 1861-1865 (46 vols.)
• Roll of Honor: Names of Soldiers Who Died in Defense of the American Union, Interred in the National Cemeteries (27 vols. in 10 parts)
• Southern Historical Society Papers (52 vols. with 2 vol. index)
• The War of the Rebellion: A Compilation of the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies. (Select vols.)
