Finding Information on KidsInfoBits Database

1. Click (press the left button of the computer mouse once) on KidsInfoBits. When the first screen opens, click in the white box at the upper center of the screen and type a word or words that describe what you are looking for. For example, type the word penguins.

2. Click on the word Search to the right of the box.

3. When the new screen opens, click on the word View enclosed in a blue oval. A new screen opens with six tabs across the upper part of the screen.

4. The first tab is opened automatically for you. The information that appears will be from reference sources such as encyclopedias.

5. You may click on any of the additional tabs for further references to: magazines; newspapers; maps, flags and seals; charts and graphics, or images.

6. A list of items will appear with general reading levels identified by the shapes on the left side. (A guide to the reading levels and shapes appears at the beginning of the list of articles.)

7. From the list of items, choose those you think will be most helpful.  Click on the titles you want to see one title at a time. You may move down with the down arrow or the scroll bar to read the test.

8. Print the article by pressing on the printer icon at the top left side and follow the directions on the top of the next screen.

Whenever you wish to return to a previous screen, click on Back in the upper left hand corner of the screen.
