Art Geyer Civil War Collection

Donated to the library by Milford resident Arthur Geyer upon his death in 1995, the Civil War Collection is comprised of approximately 450 books, and is housed in the Genealogy/Local History cabinets at the end of the Adult Collection.

This reference collection houses military indexes and Civil War-related publications designed to aid in historical and genealogical research of that era. Some of the collection’s strengths are in the areas of: Michigan Civil War history, Confederate history, regimental histories, memoirs, battles, and pictorial works.

Confederate Military History

Written by "distinguished men of the South," this series is an examination of the Southern experience of the war. Each volume is dedicated to a particular state. There are also volumes on secession, the Confederate Navy, and the war's aftermath.

Primary and secondary materials abound in this journal which includes reminiscences of soldiers and civilians, scholarly treatises on people and events of the war and postwar years, as well as reports on reunions and the activities of organizations such as the United Confederate Veterans (UCV), the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC), and the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV).
